Apparel Manufacturing for Paris Fashion Brands

Paris is the global capital of fashion. From the heritage maisons presenting at Paris Fashion Week to the rising generation of internet-first brands reshaping how consumers shop, the city pulses with creative energy and commercial ambition. For brands headquartered here, the question is not whether to manufacture quality apparel, but how to do so profitably while meeting increasingly strict European compliance standards.

Why brands in Paris choose to source through Ohzehn

Paris sits at the center of a fashion industry that contributes over 3% of France's GDP and employs more than 600,000 people across the region. The city hosts both legacy houses and a thriving startup scene, with over 200 internet-first fashion brands operating from the Île-de-France area alone. Whether you are scaling a direct-to-consumer label like Sézane or launching a new sustainable line through an accelerator like La Caserne, your manufacturing partner must deliver more than finished garments. You need traceability, chemical compliance, and production flexibility.

Ohzehn Textiles operates a vertically integrated factory in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, the performance-apparel heartland of China, with additional capacity in the Guangzhou-Dongguan corridor. Co-founder JJ Chen, through his family's prior factory operations before Ohzehn launched, produced for brands including Calvin Klein, Victoria's Secret, GAP, SKIMS, Target, and Walmart. That institutional knowledge now backs a smaller, more agile operation designed for emerging and mid-market brands.

Our in-house lab holds PVH accreditation. Certifications include OEKO-TEX 100, GRS, ZDHC, SAC, and BSCI. For a Paris brand preparing to sell into EU retail channels, those credentials translate directly to reduced friction at customs and stronger buyer confidence.

The Paris-to-China lane: ports and transit times

Goods manufactured in Fuzhou or Guangzhou move to France primarily through the Port of Le Havre, Europe's second-largest container port and a critical gateway for Chinese imports entering the EU. Le Havre connects efficiently to Paris via road and rail, with modern facilities ensuring fast processing times and reliable cargo handling.

Sea freight transit from China to Le Havre typically runs 25 to 35 days, depending on the exact departure port and routing. Vessels depart from Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Ningbo two to four times per week. Carriers on this lane include CMA CGM, Maersk, MSC, and Hapag-Lloyd. For time-sensitive orders, air freight into Paris Charles de Gaulle takes approximately 12 to 13 hours of flight time, with end-to-end delivery within 3 to 7 days.

Current shipping conditions as of early 2026 show sea freight rates on the China-to-Le Havre route ranging from approximately $1,200 to $1,500 for a 20GP container and $1,900 to $2,400 for a 40GP container. Geopolitical disruptions and routing changes can add transit time and surcharges, so lead time planning remains essential.

What we make for Paris brands

Paris brands span every aesthetic and price tier, from haute couture houses to streetwear labels to performance-driven fitness lines. Our factory supports six core categories, each aligned with the capabilities and certifications that European buyers require.

Activewear

Technical performance fabrics, four-way stretch, moisture-wicking finishes, and bonded seams. Parisian athleisure brands are embracing premium sportswear as a growth category, and our production floor handles everything from leggings to running jackets.

Intimates

Bras, underwear, loungewear, and shapewear. JJ Chen's family's prior factory operations produced for Victoria's Secret, La Senza, Cacique, Soma, and Third Love. That expertise in fit, construction, and delicate fabrics carries forward in our current production.

Casual apparel

T-shirts, hoodies, joggers, and everyday essentials. Paris's digital-native brands like ba&sh, Maje, and Loulou de Saison are growing through e-commerce and social media. We support low minimums and quick turnarounds for brands at this stage.

Yoga and studio wear

Soft-hand fabrics, flatlock stitching, high-stretch construction. The wellness market in France continues to expand, and brands require both function and aesthetic refinement.

Swimwear

Chlorine-resistant fabrics, UV protection, quick-dry finishes. Production includes one-pieces, bikinis, and resort cover-ups. Certifications like OEKO-TEX 100 are particularly important for swimwear given direct and prolonged skin contact.

Sustainable and bio-based materials

We offer 99.5% plastic-free fabric options and certified recycled content. Paris has emerged as a hub for sustainable fashion startups, with brands like Salut Beauté and Circle Sportswear building entire identities around environmental responsibility. Our GRS certification validates recycled content claims for EU retail and DTC marketing.

Compliance and tariffs for France brands

Importing apparel into France means complying with EU-wide regulations administered through the Common Customs Tariff. All products entering the European Union are classified under tariff codes that determine duty rates, protective measures, and documentation requirements.

For textiles and apparel from China, standard duties range from approximately 8% to 12% on CIF value, with clothing at the higher end of that range. EU customs authorities use the TARIC database to identify applicable tariffs and any anti-dumping measures.

Beyond tariffs, the EU's REACH regulation governs chemical safety. REACH restricts more than 1,000 chemicals in consumer goods, with textiles subject to specific entries in Annex XVII. The presence of an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate serves as pre-verified proof of compliance, reducing inspection frequency and accelerating documentation review at customs.

New for 2026: OEKO-TEX has introduced updated regulations effective June 1, 2026, including stricter PFAS limits aligned with upcoming French and EU-wide legislation. France is implementing its own stricter PFAS restrictions from January 2026. Our factory's OEKO-TEX certification already meets these updated benchmarks.

The EU's Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation, adopted in 2024, will introduce Digital Product Passport requirements for textiles. Large enterprises face disclosure obligations beginning in the 2026/2027 financial year. Meanwhile, France's Environmental Cost label becomes mandatory in October 2026 for brands that communicate any environmental score publicly. Partnering with a certified, transparent manufacturer simplifies compliance with these incoming requirements.

How time zones actually work

Paris operates on Central European Time: UTC+1 in winter (CET) and UTC+2 in summer (CEST). China Standard Time is UTC+8 year-round. The practical difference is 6 to 7 hours depending on the season, with China ahead.

A 9:00 AM meeting in Paris corresponds to 4:00 PM or 5:00 PM in Fuzhou. That overlap window, late afternoon in China and morning in France, is workable for both parties. Our US-raised bilingual lead Kelvin Liu lives in China and works flexibly across all time zones. When you send an email at 10:00 PM Paris time, you often have a response waiting by morning.

Quote turnaround is 72 hours. Technical queries, sample tracking, and production updates move through a single point of contact who understands both the European retail calendar and China factory realities.

Categories of brands in Paris we are a fit for

Pre-revenue and seed-stage founders

Paris hosts numerous fashion incubators, including Look Forward by Showroomprivé, the Foundry at IFA Paris, and La Caserne. Founders emerging from these programs need a manufacturing partner who can handle low MOQs without sacrificing quality or compliance. We work with brands at their earliest stages.

Growing DTC labels

Brands doing €500K to €10M in annual revenue often outgrow their initial manufacturer but remain too small for the tier-one factories serving luxury houses. This middle stage requires production flexibility, responsive communication, and the certifications that EU retailers and marketplaces demand.

Established mid-market brands

Labels approaching or exceeding €25M in revenue need scale, consistency, and a partner who can support multiple product categories simultaneously. Our vertical integration, from fabric to finished garment, allows us to control quality and timing across complex orders.

Sustainable fashion pioneers

Paris has positioned itself as a center for sustainable fashion innovation. Startups focused on circular economy models, upcycled materials, and transparent supply chains require manufacturing partners with genuine certifications, not just marketing claims. Our GRS, OEKO-TEX, and ZDHC credentials are audited and verifiable.

The case for going direct

Traditional sourcing models rely on trading companies, middlemen, and multi-step supply chains. Each layer adds cost, reduces transparency, and creates opportunities for miscommunication. A Paris brand working through an agent may never know which factory actually produced their goods.

Direct factory relationships change that equation. You know who is making your product, under what conditions, and with what materials. You can visit. You can audit. You can build a partnership that improves over seasons rather than resetting with every new purchase order.

Ohzehn exists because the founder team saw how legacy apparel manufacturing underserved emerging brands. The big factories prioritize volume. The small workshops lack certifications. The trading companies optimize for their own margins. A vertically integrated partner with Western communication standards and Asian manufacturing economics sits in a different position entirely.

Paris has always understood that fashion is more than product. It is craft, story, and identity. The brands emerging from this city deserve manufacturing partners who take that seriously.

The relationship between a Paris fashion brand and a Fuzhou factory floor is measured in time zones, transit days, and tariff codes, but it is built on trust.
