Swim shorts and trunks manufacturer in China.

Men’s swim splits into two fabric worlds: a knit trunk or swim boxer that stretches with the body, and a woven board short that holds a crisper line. We knit the first and source the second, so the program still runs as one order.

Ohzehn Textiles makes swim shorts and trunks for brands from its mill in Fuzhou, China: swim shorts, swim trunks, swim briefs and swim boxers on knit fabric, and board shorts as a full package on woven fabric we source. We knit tricot, powernet and mesh, with bonded or coverstitch liners. Every batch is tested for BPA, PFAS, phthalates, heavy metals, formaldehyde and azo dyes.

03 · Knit vs woven

A swim trunk stretches. A board short holds its line.

Swim trunks, swim briefs and swim boxers run on the tricot, powernet and mesh we knit ourselves, the same warp-knit base as the rest of our swim range, chosen for the stretch and recovery a fitted swim piece needs.

Board shorts are a different fabric question. They are almost always cut from woven fabric, which holds a crisper line and takes a cleaner print than a knit, rather than knit in-house. We run board shorts as full package: we source the woven fabric, then handle the cut-and-sew, liner and print ourselves, so it is still one order and one point of contact, even though the fabric itself does not come off our own knitting floor.

04 · Finishing

The liner is where most swim shorts actually fail.

A mesh or tricot liner is bonded or coverstitched into the shell, cut to sit flat against the body instead of bunching once it is wet. Liner coverage and fabric are decided with the shell at the same time, not added afterward, because a liner that was an afterthought is the single most common complaint on a reordered swim short.

Drawstrings, eyelets and the waistband closure are chosen for the fabric weight they sit on, whether that is a knit trunk or a woven board short.

Our mill supplies fabric to garment manufacturers producing for brands including Skims, Victoria’s Secret, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger. Your first order can run on fabric from the same floor.

Fabric from our mill has gone into garments for these brands, directly and through the garment makers who sew for them. Marks belong to their owners.

Swim is seasonal, and the season does not move for a late sample. Talk to us while the range is still a sketch, so liner, print and fabric choice have room to be decided properly.

07 · Minimums on swim shorts

Knit, woven and sewing minimums are different things.

A knit trunk carries a fabric minimum from our own knitting and dye run. A board short's woven fabric carries the sourced mill's own minimum, which can run differently from ours. The sewing side carries its own, per style and colour. We quote against your style on a call and tell you which minimum binds your order.

10 · FAQ

Questions about swim shorts and trunks.

Do you make swim boxers?

Yes. Swim boxers and swim briefs run on tricot, powernet or mesh, the same warp-knit base as the rest of our swim range, with a mesh or tricot liner bonded or coverstitched in. Send a reference piece and we quote cut and liner against it.

Do you make board shorts?

Yes, as a full package. Board shorts are usually cut from woven fabric rather than knit, so we source the woven fabric and run the cut-and-sew, print and liner construction. Tell us the print and liner you want and we quote the program.

Is board short fabric knit or woven?

Woven, almost always. A board short needs a crisper hand and less stretch than a knit swim trunk, which is a woven fabric's job, not a knit one. We knit the tricot, powernet and mesh that the rest of the swim range runs on, and source the woven fabric for board shorts so the program still runs as one order.

What's the liner construction like?

A mesh or tricot liner is bonded or coverstitched into the shell, cut to sit flat rather than bunch, and set for the coverage level your spec calls for. Liner choice is decided with the shell fabric and the cut, not added as an afterthought at the end of development.
